My favorite genre of music is progressive rock and it wasn't listed there. Actually it's seldom listed anywhere. I've often referred to it as the bastard step-child of rock. The bands that best represent progressive rock don't actually get recognized for their complete body of work - but usually that one or two mainstream rock tunes or ballads that really don't represent the band's over all sound but fit that three or four minute timeframe required for radio airplay. For instance Emerson Lake & Palmer were primarily a three piece band fronted by an amazing virtuoso keyboard player Keith Emerson ... but the band is best know for the Greg Lake ballads like "Lucky Man" and "Still You Turn Me On". Genesis at their most symphonic progressive period, when fronted by Peter Gabriel, didn't become accepted by the mainstream until Gabriel left - Collin stepped out from behind the drum kit, and they started writing more pop tunes. And the most intricate pieces of music from the band YES - who literally put progressive rock on the map - have gone unheard while the bands' few hit singles from the 90s' albums "90125" and "Big Generator" when they went in an entirely different direction are all I ever hear played by them on the radio. Even the great Pink Floyd are probably only best known for the tracks "Money", "Comfortably Numb", and "Another Brick In The Wall" yet have better than a dozen albums to their credit. And The Moody Blues best albums were their first seven but you'll only hear the tracks "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights In White Satin" from that era while the synth pop album "Long Distance Voyager" is probably their best seller of all time.
