I would like to begin with the word "Latakia". I've always pronounced it "LaTAHkia" and assumed that it was correct. However, it's come to my attention that Muttnchop Piper consistently says "LataKEEya". This led me to additional research, which further confounded the matter by introducing the pronunciation "LatakEYEya".

How do you say Latakia? So far, we have three experts with three diverse opinions.

I'm with Muttnchop Piper and say "LataKEEya". That's how I've always said it and heard it said. But like you I've just made the assumption that it's correct and I'm not sure what the technical pronunciation is.

However you pronounce it I know it's the only tobacco room note my wife complains about. She says it smells like I'm burning wet leaves in the Fall.
