    California and Warnings . . .  Summer of 1967, we had just moved from Maine to Oregon. We spent a week (I was 14ish) driving around the western part of the state, and briefly crossed into northern California. Stopped at a sea-side State Park (never noticed the name) before turning back northwards, and discovered an official highway-department sign just inside the Southbound entrance to the Park's parking lot which read: " HIPPIES PERMITTED ON LEASH ONLY"

    My dad got a picture or two of that sign before we left.
