Flying with pipes and tobacco

At some point this year I plan on flying home to see my new niece, and I want to take a pipe and tobacco.  Does anyone have experience traveling with these items.  I assume a lighter is out of the question, but does anyone know if there are restrictions on traveling with pipes and tobacco in your luggage, carry on, or personal items?

Thankfully I only fly a once or twice a year. I've never had an issue carrying on pipes and tobacco. I don't bring a lighter and the tamper does not have a scraper or pick.

I carry everything on with me, never had a problem with anything, soft flame lighters are fine in your carry on. My last two flights I had my carry on inspected because of magazines and foot powder. Never even looked at the tobacco, pipes, and lighter

I've flown with pipes and tobacco and I've never had an issue. I've even had my tamper with pick and scraper in it, and never had it confiscated. I suggest that you pack your pipes/tobacco in your carry on, as you don't want them somehow "misplaced" in the process. Never took my lighter though, just to be on the safe side.

Also, if you plan on picking up pipe tobacco, especially when flying overseas, be sure to check the regulations on how much you can buy and bring back without having to pay extra for them.

I just flew a couple weeks ago and I carried my zippo with me and had my pipe and tobacco in my carry on. It was no problem.

I fly for work fairly often and looked into this a few months ago. Pipes, tobacco and lighters are all fine to fly. I agree that they should go in the carry on and not the checked luggage. But I've taken them through many an airport and had no problems. If you're ever questioning what you can or cannot bring you can check out this website; https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/prohibited-items They have a whole list of prohibited items and you can search literally anything and it will tell you if it's prohibited.

I was allowed to bring my cigars but they took my matchbook.... they let me have my torch..... Still don't understand St. Louis Lambert Airport
