How do you apply your finish to your home crafted pipes?

I typically begin with a band saw for rough work. Add more detail with files and progress with 220 to 1500 grit sand paper. Dying after the 400 grit for the first coat of dye. Final polish is with carneuba wax. Initial gloss is fantastic. It does require additional buffing after about 10-bowls. Does anyone use a different technique?
