Like many I started off with 1Q but for the past 15 years I smoke light to med Balkan/English blend exclusively. It took my wife a while to accept the change in smell but I haven't had a complaint from her in years. (I'm not a chain smoker but a bowl or two a day tops)
American English blends for me. Think along the lines of peretti d-9575, barking dog, revelation and the like. Something about the burley and latakia gets me going
@PipeProfessor Definitely the Peretti D-9575, a true old school American/English blend. 4 noggins bald headed teacher is another favorite. Send me a DM through instagram with your address, I'll send you some samples of my favs to take for a spin.
Wow, thanks @thewanderingdude. I'm excited to try them. I will DM you...but only if you tell me what you like so I can send some samples to you as well!
Aros first, settled on Black Cavendish for years, found English/Balkan and there I've stayed with side trips when in the mood. Recently enjoyed Burley and Vapers.
I have been smoking pipes for over 40 years having started in college with Borkum Riff Bourbon. Loved the taste and aroma. But my tastes changed and I have pretty much been a burley smoker for the past 15-20 years. My favorites are Prince Albert & Carter Hall. I don't seem to tire of the taste or aroma. Also, I inhale and these are easy tobaccos for inhaling! I am not impressed by tobacco shop tobaccos. I like what I like!!!
English/Balkan blends and Va/Per or Va/Per/Oriental blends are my mainstay. Straight Virginias and burley blends I stay away from any more now as I just do not enjoy them. Same for most aromatics though I do like a good crossover blend like Frog Morton Cellar.
After 40+ years of pipe smoking and having tried literally thousands of tobacco blends, I've pretty much settled on good 'ol Sir Walter Raleigh Regular. I guess at my age I prefer simplicity. SWR is honest, simple, Burley tobacco. Not too sweet, yet rich and full bodied. Easy to pack, light and smoke. To me, it's the definition of old school "pipe tobacco". I admit I do venture into English and aromatic blends for a little variety now and then.
