What's your next pipe purchase?

Does anyone else have a pipe they are looking forward to or still saving up for?
Mine was the Savinelli Bing's Favorite & now I've got it! Super excited to break it in.
Next on the list is probably a MM Cobbit Shire & then maybe a DIY hobby block.
How 'bout you?

  • Just ordered a Peterson XL02 Killarney with saddle stem! Also looking forward to geeting the MM Cobbit series in the future.
  • No idea.:) I've been focusing on tobacco for the past few months, and probably will for the next few, as well. I'd really like to get another smaller bowl pipe (Dunhill group 3) for Virginias, but not sure when that's going to happen.
  • Won't know until I find it.
  • I'm waiting for payday to get the rest of the MM Cobbit series as I already have the Wizard.  I might get a 1985 Peterson Premier that I found on eBay as it is my B-Day pipe and new and unsmoked.  I haven't decided on that though as I may just some more tobacco as I already have a ton of pipes I never smoke in my collection that I don't want to part with.
  • I have my eyes on a Comoys Riband straight pot. It is a beautiful pipe but it is going to be a while before I can convince the s/o to let me drop $150.
  • Sounds good, guys.
  • No PAD for me, concentrating on building up my cellar so it's TAD for me.
  • While I want to build my cellar with all of this FDA stuff, I'm going to have two pipes commissioned by one of my good IG friends MarvicPipes. I'll post stuff when they are finished. Doing one now, and saving for the other.
  • Looking forward to having a GabesPipes Poker commissioned later in the year.

No idea when, maybe sometime next year, but probably something from Cavicchi or Jacono either new or estate. Haven't bought a pipe in probably a year. What money I have spent on the hobby since then has been for tobacco. The 15 pipes I currently own are sufficient for my needs.
  • Another bowl for my Falcon, looking at a smooth billard.
  • I am fortunate enough to be visiting Dublin soon and am looking forward to purchasing a Peterson there. My first quality briar pipe.
  • @bluespiper I've been fortunate to visit Peterson's shop in Dublin twice, and it's an incredible experience. I find the prices there are much more affordable than shopping for them online. I hope you enjoy your time there!
  • Before I think about another pipe purchase I'm going to have to buy another pipe rack. And find a place to put it. I've come to the conclusion that I have far too many collections of a little bit of everything.
  • I'm going to keep my eyes on @Corey562 pipes. I already have one and very impressed. I'll take some time to tuck a little moolah away, and wait for the right pipe to hit me between the eyes...
  • @KA9FFJ, have you smoked it yet?

which ever one catches my eye, or calls my name! LOL
  • @Anthony  If a pipe ever actually calls my name, I think I‘ll spend whatever money I have on psychiatric treatment.
  • @mfresa Yes, I decided to take a long break the other day. It is an egg with an almost 2 in. deep chamber! I decided to use straight toasted black Cavendish for the occasion. It smoked beautifully. It took me 2 hrs. and 40 minutes with 3 relights to complete the bowl. What a smoke. The draw was perfect (I know packing is an important element for that), and the feel of the pipe was as if it was made for my hands. I'm ready for another @Corey562 pipe... My pocket book's not ready yet, but I am...
  • As usual PAD has returned but I wander Ebay/Etsy  to see if something catches my eye, I followed a Carey MI Horn but the bidding got carried away, I also got a chuckle about the twin to my Wally Frank Horn for $90, I'm embarrassed to say I got mine for under $10 including postage.( The pipe went for $1 postpaid in the 50's.) The more a pipe manufacturer/ Type gets mentioned on the web, the higher the prices go.
  • For my next pipe purchase, I'm debating between a Savinelli Canadian/Lumberman or an estate Calabash.

On one hand, I'd like to go with the Savinelli, as I only own one, and it was an estate when I bought it. I love my Savinelli, and after picking up multiple Petersons and Stanwells, I'd like to branch out a bit and give some attention to Italian pipes.

On the other hand, I keep seeing Calabash pipes on IG, and I'd like to add one into my rotation. They're a bit flamboyant, but they just have a great look to them.

I'd also like to pick up a Morgan Blackjack pipe, as I enjoy my Bones pipe, and the Blackjacks look great.
  • @KA9FFJ, I like mine as well.  Wish I could buy another one, but I prefer to make my own.  someday my skills may approach his, but this will take time...
  • @ghostsofpompeii- I can related to that.  Collections take up so much space.  I would say that my biggest collection of collectables are books.  I have been collecting since I was about 14-y/o and collect mostly hardbound first editions dating from present day to around 1800.  The subject matters span from Architecture to World History with nearly everything in between.

My second largest collection, and technically part of my growing library, are the media collection of music (Vinyl & CD's) and movies (DVD & VCR Tape).   Music is mostly jazz and blues from the 1920-present but there are some rock, dance, country, classical, and movie tracks in there.  Many years ago, I worked as an assistant sound engineer so I have some demos of projects I worked on as well.  Not counting classical, the time period spans from about 1920 to present day.  No rap or crap that seems to clog the radio waves these days.  Movies consist of the classic silents to present day.

So for me, my pipe collection takes up nothing compared to the books and media that I have amassed through the years.  Recently, I have came to the conclusion that I need to find a larger space to house this ever growing library.
  • @Charles To quote a famous line from Jaws, "I think we're gonna need a bigger boat"... :)
  • I plan on getting a Bings Favorite with my Christmas money
  • I have 6 pipes and I think that is enough for me right now, I realize their are many great looking pipes around, and if the collecting fever grabs you it can be very expensive. Just more concerned about keeping my tobacco supply up.
  • @buflosab Unless you plan on becoming an avid pipe collector, 6 pipes is probably more than adequate for the average pipe smoker. With a six pipe rotation it provides each pipe with enough time to dry out properly between smokes, and it's a good total in the event you want to dedicate certain pipes to aromatic, English, and Va-Per blends with three extra for mix and match. I have a tendency to go overboard whenever I start some kind of a collection, which is why I've accumulated so many pipes over the years as well as too much tobacco in my cellar. With Christmas coming up I know I have an additional six or seven pipes currently wrapped up under the tree, meaning I'll be needing another pipe rack to properly display them. The only problem is where to put the next pipe rack without making the house appear to be a tobacco shop. I need to remind myself I share my home with my wife and can't make every room in the house reflect my personality.
