Dowel Pipe Question

Hi, all - I have a simple design for a dowel pipe, but I'm concerned about the purity of the wood.  Do "untreated" dowels you purchase from a hardware store still contain any chemicals like glues or pesticides?  Thanks!

Since Daniel got no response I thought I'd bump this back up, especially since we have so many members who are qualified pipe makers.

@DanielCSan9592 If you buy the dowel rod I wood try and find out if it was treated. Are you using it for the shank or for a bowl.

Look for some downed  fruit trees, cut rounds the size you need and boil them in water which will prevent cracking. Dry out and shave to size, Let the chips fly.
