What's your favorite Cobb? I enjoy the Cobbit line, and the Mark Twain. I'd like to get a General, and a Country Gentleman. Anyone want to share their favorites?
I want the rest of the cobbit series. I have the wizard but have not been brave enough (had the time) to load it and smoke it but love the coolness of a cob churchwarden. Otherwise, I like the legend (rob roy) the best as it will give me about an hour smoke but isn't to big to clench as my general is.
I have a ton of cobs, but my favorites are my Diplomats. The Mark Twain is also a great shape, but the older MTs have a much greater diameter than the more recent ones. The newer ones are good, but if you can get an older one, they're the best!
Have a shire cobbit that I still need to break out. Been finding myself using the Legend services (5th Ave) and bent country gentelman the most. Broke down and added a cob cigar to my order today. Think I should round out the cobbit set next.
I have a few different cobs now but have only smoked my Country Gentleman. It was my first pipe and has been my default pipe ever since I got a custom stem for it.
My very first pipe, (about 4 months ago), was a Country Gentleman with a bent stem. About a month and a half later I figured I'd try to be like the seasoned smokers so I ponied up about $120.00 for a blasted poker style briar that I liked the look of. Between the two, I smoke the Country Gentleman 4 times as often as the briar. Not sure if it's because I became comfortable with the cob since it's what I "cut my teeth on" or what. I recently ordered and received two Mark Twain pipes with straight stems that I want to customize myself with some leather dye, (gotta darken those suckers up a bit), and maybe try shortening the stem on one of them. I think I do like the style of the Twain the best though with the anse looking one coming in as a close second.
@suppressedrage I go through phases of briar then meerschaum and then cobs. most of the time it depends on what I am doing as i dont want to destroy a $100 pipe but if a crack, chip,or burnout a cob... its a shame to loose a nice piece but its a heck of a lot easier to replace a cob.
