Safest way to transport your pipe

I'll be doing some traveling soon and flying across country and wanted to know what you guys did to make sure your pipes survived the trip.  Also, any tips on getting through TSA without any hassles?  Any suggestions or feedback would be great.  Thanks.

I throw mine in a hard travel cigar humidor and pack them carefully.

I always take mine with me on my carry on. I put them in my pipe bag or pipe roll along with the tins of tobacco. I buy a cheap bic lighter when I reach my desitnation and I put the tamper in my checked bag. I have never had a problem or even had TSA even give me a second look.

I recently got myself a 6x6x2 aluminum hard case with latches and a handle....all foamed inside for $4 at a garage sale. That would be the way to go if it were me.

I carry pipes & tobacco on - I'll go with sealed packs. Check though tools. I use wooden matches,and those can be carried on, IIRC. Easily purchased if not.
