Kiribi Lighters

I've been looking at getting an old boy style pipe lighter and have been looking at some of the newer Kiribi lighters, specifically the Kabuto. I have been reading mixed reviews on them. Does anyone have personal experience with one or should I save up and get a IM Corona?

Unless you want the real deal Dunhill Unique I'd stick with the IM Corona. I like mine and have never had any issues but like my Corona Pipe Master and Elyse more than my Ol Boy.
  • Mine is a Maruman Old Boy type made in Japan. I paid $10 for it at a flea market it works great.

I have a Kiribi Kubuto for the same reason. I didn't want to pay the price for an Old Boy. I've had it for well over a year now and love it. Never had any issues and always lights. And felts extremely well built.

@mkanne Thanks. I've been wondering about them as they seem to sell quickly at the online retailers but I've never found some with experience with one.
  • I must be green....I have not heard of them lighters.....I guess I have more Cigar lighters than anything....

@wolf41035 I have a ton of cigar lights as well, I will never use them on pipes, but when I first started smoking I learned to hate Bic lighters as its normally too windy where I am and I burn the tar out of my fingers. I did some research and quickly learned about pipe lighters and I'm steadily building that collection just so I can keep them where I need. I started with some cheaper ones that I love but they just don't look as good so I wanted to upgrade and have been looking at the old boy style for a bit. The Kiribi lights came out about 2-3 years ago so they are relatively new and I've only ever seen them at online retailers that sell pipe stuff. They have good reviews but some not so good like most things. The nice thing is the price point is about $80 versus $120+ or the IM Corona
  • @drac2485 Yeah I am not a Bic lover either, they are not even good for starting camp fires!  LOL
I love my 14 Cigar lighters and my 4 everyday all purpose lighters, I also have a few Zippo lighters along with an antique Old style Navy lighter that is in a wood box and packed with grass and cotton.
I guess I have one or two basic pipe lighters but nothing special yet.

@wolf41035 I have a few "fancy" lighter both pipe and cigar.  They are all Xikar but they are all about to go into a box and shipped back to Xikar to fix as they all started leaking butane within the past year.
  • @drac2485 Xikar are usually good lighters and cutter, if they do go bad they fix them free of charge, that is why I have a couple.  lol

@wolf41035 I know that's why i have quite a few of them.  I just want to know why they ALL started having the same problem within the past several months
  • @drac2485 Not sure but I have heard a few guys at the Cigar Lounge saying the same thing, maybe they had some bad parts or an employee that didn't care that week or month they ran them?  Who really knows but they are great about fixing them even if it is wear and tar from over use.  lol

No experience with that particular lighter. Just ordered a Mr Brogs clone of the old boy hopefully it works well. Have been keeping an eye out for a deal on an old boy just so I can have the real thing.

Last year I bought a Xikar Resource pipe lighter that had to be returned, also leaking butane. The replacement they sent me is a new model for this year. I've only had it for a couple of months, but it's been fantastic so far.

I have a Kiribi lighter I purchased about 3 years ago for around $85-90. It has held up well over a lot of use. Just normal flint replacement for me. Can't complain.
