Aftertaste

Some people love the aftertaste and some hate them. Personally, I love the smooth and creamy aftertaste of some blends. What about the rest of you? Are there also blends that give you an aftertaste that you love and others that you hate?

Comments

  • I hate the soapy aftertaste of some of the heavy Lakeland blends.
Not so much the aftertaste, but I love the after smell of a good pipe tobacco in my beard.

I normally love the aftertaste and like @pappyjoe I love the after smell in my beard.  I've had a few blends recently that I didn't care for the aftertaste and woke up in the morning happy to brush my teeth.  I usually prefer the aftertaste of aromatics (unless I'm trying a new one I don't care for) because of the sweet creamy taste the seem to leave.
  • Hated Mixture 79, tasted like I drank perfumed soap.
  • @woodsman - I still hate Mixture 79 and I haven't tried it since the 70s.
  • One of my stepsons just gave me a new pouch of Mixture 79. Any suggestions on what I should do with it? Please be advised that throwing it out or giving it back are not acceptable answers to this burning (pun intended) question.
  • I love the aftertaste of a heavy latakia blend.  Lakeland, not so much.
  • @topaz75 - if you have a fire pit in the backyard, build a fire in it. By accident, let the pouch fall into the fire. Accidents do happen.
  • Or you can open the pouch, dump it and refill it with something you like...

  • I believe it was Nietzsche who said that anything that doesn't kill you makes you stronger. With that in mind, I opened the pouch of 79 and packed some into one of my old Petersons.

It is unlike anything I've smoked in recent years, but I can't say it's entirely unpleasant. Kind of reminds me of the blends of my youth. It's doubtful that I'll be purchasing more anytime soon, but I'm determined to smoke and enjoy the rest of what I've got. Hell, if you've got it: smoke it.
  • @Topaz75 , I think if I were to push myself to smoke it , I'ld grab an
extra cob and make the step-son smoke it with me.(insert evil grin)
  • I truly enjoy, "and crave" the taste and aftertaste of SPC Plum Pudding. DE-LISH-US! On the other end of the spectrum, I despise the taste and especially aftertaste of burley! If there happens to be any burley in Plum Pudding, then there is something magical in that stuff like care bear farts or smurf tears that totally eliminates any smell or taste of it to me.
  • I find that the blends that leave a bad aftertaste are mostly cherry blend aromatics. They have that bitter aftertaste of artificial sweetener.
  • Life is to short to be smoking OTC blends, unless, of course, there's an OTC that you favor.

But Mixture 79? Friends don't let friends smoke licorice flavored tobacco......
  • I may be in a minority but I still enjoy the Captain Black blends. I only wish they had more than the original blend in the stores around me. I've been very happy with their blends like Round, Dark, Grape, and Copper. Even older blends like Royal and Gold are difficult to find anymore. And seem like the only way I can order it is on line. Problem is, if I'm making an order on-line at P&C it's not Captain Black that's on my radar. I'll end up ordering something else and forgetting all about replenishing my Captain Black supply. The thing that separates Captain Black from many of the other OTC blends that are usually lumped together is price. Captain Black is pretty expensive for a OTC blend in comparison to something like Carter Hall, Half and Half, and Sir Walter Raleigh. Which might explain why store only carry the original blend and not the complete line.

A little shout out for Captain Black.
