What are your tips for sweetening a pipe after it's been well smoked and starts to become bitter or sour?

    Run a pipe cleaner through it after each smoke and it shouldn't turn bitter or sour. If it does, dip a pipe cleaner in bourbon and clean the stem and stummel good.

    I clean it with Everclear and give it a very good thorough cleaning.  If I can't sweeten if back up I'll use Everclear in the bowl and remove the cake.  I've fixed sour pipes by doing that even though it sucks to start over building the cake but at least you can smoke it again.
