What do you think about___________?
It seems to me it would be helpful to ask for opinions of Brothers and Sisters that have experience with pipes and tobaccos that the rest of us haven't tried. My first question concerns Churchwarden Pipes; Are they good smokers? which brand do you recommend? How do you clean the long stems?
Comments
What @mapletop said pretty much covers it. I have one meerschaum, one Missouri Meerschaum Cobbit, four briars including the one @Corey562 made. I will say I prefer a churchwarden with a shorter stem - in the 5-6 inch length size.
Great information. I'm still considering a purchase. Thanks, Brothers!
I had several churchwarden pipes, most were “less expensive” pipes, and most smoke wet as heck. I sold most of them. I still have two or three that smoke ok, still “gurglers” except one. It is a Joh’s and is a nice pipe and smokes well.
You both have valid points. I'm still on the fence, but will consider all pieces of advise.
@Zouave;
Savinelli is my go to brand, but I'm open.
Seems to me that both would have profited if they had left it alone. I've never been interested in reading the Tolkien Series, but if I had purchased that pipe, it might have peaked my curiosity. Who knows?
I started this quest with churchwarden and bents, but I have since gravitated to Lovat’s, Liverpool’s, Billiard’s, and other straight pipes, mostly stubby’s.
I prefer a large bowl meself. I noticed that Pipes and Cigars has a sale going on and that Big Ben has a churchwarden that has a bigger bowl than any of than Savinelli Churchwardens. I have made decisions on new vehicles in less time than this pipe purchase. I guess I haven't completely convinced myself that I really need another pipe. I couldn't ask for better advise than I have received from my Brothers on TPL.
I looked at the Neerup on Smokingpipes.com and pulled the trigger. Total was $137.57. A little more than I was planning to spend, but I'm old and I can't take it with me. I had never heard of Neerup Pipes before. Thanks for the suggestion. Thanks also to Brothers @RockyMountainBriar, @PappyJoe, @mapletop, @vtgrad2003, @Londy3. Great advise and comments. If she don't smoke so good, you can all share in the blame.
Congratulations sir! You should probably have the inaugural unboxing and pipe lighting on video and provide first impressions 😁
I just bought me a new pipe too, moments before I wrote this. Introducing the Rossi Rubino Antico.
I have the Harvest Moon pipes in my favorites list also 🙂
The fact that you are worried about an old man blaming you for something makes me feel 50 years younger, and I thank you for that. Fact is I own the purchase. I will certainly provide photos and impressions to all of you Brothers: @RockyMountainBriar, @Zouave, @Londy3, @PappyJoe, @mapletop ,@vtgrad2003. Video is sadly beyond my technical capability.
Alright. We have high expectations on this review. I will help promote this through the media. You may want to get a haircut, beard trim and clothes pressed. What is the ETA of the pipe and date we should plan on the review? 📝
Haircut, shave, clean clothes? This is becoming an expensive purchase. I suppose I'll have to brush my teeth and put on deodorant too? Well, I guess I can do that once a year, if it will make you happy.
Sold! Get your game on brother! Let's do this! 😉
I haven't got a smartphone or a way to do videos. I haven't had time to get a haircut. It looks like a nice pipe, but I'm not sure a churchwarden is a pipe that I will enjoy. Once I try to smoke it I'll post a picture. Sorry I let you down, Brother.
