Bulk for the Boys

I’ve got a good amount of friends interested in smoking pipes. I have no problem sharing my personal stash of blends, but I’ve been thinking: what if I just got some bulk tobacco specifically for this cause? I’ve seen some pretty good deals on 12 ounce bags for vanilla and cherry flavors on sites like pipesandcigars.com and I was wondering: What tobacco would YOU buy for this purpose so that you can recruit new pipe smokers without going through your own sweet collection of blends all the time? Thought it might be an interesting discussion!

Lane BCA or Lane RLP-6.  

BCA smokes well, is a little sweet, whiskey, vanilla, doesn’t bite, has a pleasant room note, and lower nicotine. 

RLP-6 smokes well, is a little sweet, caramel?, vanilla?, chocolate?, doesn’t bite, has a pleasant room note, and lower nicotine.

Also, you can’t beat a MM cob for smoking “party favors”🙂

I do not have any experience with the big bargain bags of tobacco, so I can’t make a recommendation on them.

Just my 10 cents....inflation, ya know🙂

Also, I will say, if they are/were cigarette smokers, I have had zero success adding them as aficionados of the pipe.  I wish you luck in starting a little pipe smokers circle of friends.  I have got one friend to take up the hobby, at least occasionally👍🏻

I would recommend types of tobacco. English, Vaper, Aromatic, etc. Don't recommend six cherry blends.

@amolmes I would add LL7 to this list. It's very easy to light and smokes to the bottom, great room note, good taste and pairs well with bourbon 😁

Without reservation I’d suggest Lane Limited Burley-Light-Without-A-Bite. Slight sweet topping and WILL NOT give you tongue bite... which is the #1 complaint when learning to smoke a pipe. Can’t beat it for newbies.

Word of caution, @amolmes... don’t assume a “sweet” blend is best for new pipe smokers. Sweet often translates to “burn the crap out of my tongue.” And for sure don’t subject them to a cherry blend (which tend to be the harshest). My rank ordered list of bulk blends for newbies would be...
