I recently had my first bowl of Christmas cheer at a pipe club meeting, and I want to start the tradition of picking up a tin each year. My questions are...

How hard is it to locate a tin?

When is it typically released?

I think it gets released in the next few months.  I always see it on the online pipe shops I use, pipesandcigars.com and smokingpipes.com.  Smokingpipes usually sends out an email when they get it in because it is a popular collectible.

This year Mike Mcniel will release both 2016 and 2017 Christmas Cheer because of FDA uncertainty. I'm guessing we will see it very soon.

@thewanderingdude, I was going to comment the same thing. If my memory serves correct, they will be out by Monday at select retailors due to the FDA regs.

@subtilis87 - my tobacconist recommended I buy two cans every year. One to smoke immediately and one to age a few years. I've done that since 2014. I pop one open and I throw one in the cellar for the future. Easy to find in all of my local shops, but I agree it's also easy to find online.

@thewanderingdude I heard the same thing about the 2016 & 2017 Christmas Cheer, really looking forward to getting some this year. I just hope it isn't the last years for it...

Subtilis87 thank you for posting this question, I was wondering the same thing.  I know Straus recently released their fall blend Sleepy Hallow and their Christmas blend Wenceslas.  I was hoping McClelland would do the same with Christmas cheer.  I guess we'll have to wait and see..

P&C has 2016 and 2017 listed on their website but has them as not in stock.

had both in my cart, 2 tins of each, and decided i couldn't spend the money on it. wish i could have! i have 2 tins of 2015 aging currently.

Pipes and cigars has 2016 in stock & Smoking Pipes has 2016 and 2017 in stock. Also, according to Pipes and Cigars Russ Ouellette...

"McClelland is releasing their Christmas Cheer and Holiday Spirit blends for 2016, and also for 2017 right now. Why both years at once? Due to the FDA's new deeming regulations, annual and seasonal blends will no longer be able to be made. Since Mike and Mary McNiel had already bought the leaf for the next two years, they figured that they had to bring them out now, or not at all. "

Sadness, I thought that since it has been around so long it would be grandfathered in.

@Subtilis87 since the blend changes from year to year it falls under the FDA regs.
