Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all, and a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2020, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great, (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country or is indeed the only “America” in the western hemisphere), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, choice of computer platform, or sexual preference of the wishee. @motie2 said it all, but may we all enjoy a more limited holiday with the expectation that the holiday following the summer solstice will one of guilt free and disease free monumental parties!
If all goes right tonight (working twelve tonight) then I’ll have off for Christmas Eve and Christmas, which I should normally because those are my scheduled days off during the week when we’re not hit with the Forced Overtime Fish. Finally get to see my kid after months; because of work I’ve literally only seen her three times since March, but since she’ll be 21 in April this bothers me far more than it does her hahaha.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, a blessed and happy Hanukkah, Festivius, a happy winter solstice, a happy Kwanza, (I think that’s all of them for this month, yeah? If I missed one then I hope that it was a happy and/or merry day for you) and may 2021 be a better year for us all. If you do not celebrate anything at all then sit in your favorite chair on the 25th, watch some good movies, and smoke lots of tobacco.
I mean, it almost *has* to be better by default, right? Whew, what a year it has been.
I heard the bells on Christmas day Their old familiar carols play, And wild and sweet the words repeat Of peace on earth, good will to men.
I thought how, as the day had come, The belfries of all Christendom Had rolled along th'unbroken song Of peace on earth, good will to men.
And in despair I bowed my head: "There is no peace on earth," I said, "For hate is strong and mocks the song Of peace on earth, good will to men."
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: "God is not dead, nor doth he sleep; The wrong shall fail, the right prevail, With peace on earth, good will to men."
Till, ringing, singing, on its way, The world revolved from night to day, A voice, a chime, a chant sublime, Of peace on earth, good will to men!
