What Was the First Blend You Fell In Love With?

For me it was Frog Morton Cellar. Like a lot of folks this was my crossover tobacco from Aros to English type blends. I don't smoke it much anymore, but sometimes the frog is the only thing I can find to scratch the itch when the mood hits. What was your first blend that you really loved? And does it still have a place in your rotation?

I would have to go with Lane Limited BS-005. First blend I smoked with latakia and I was hooked. Still one of my favorites.

I have a feeling this will be a common answer. Frog Morton's Cellar was my first blend I fell in love with.

Cult Abacus...yes I have a sweet tooth. I have not smoked it since November though, as I am down to my last unopened tin...That will change Monday though when I put an order in.

Hmmmm - I think I would have to say that it was Troost Special Cavendish, long ago and far away. I was able to buy a fairly good-sized can of - 10 or 12 ounces. I revisited it a few years back - it's still pretty good. Some of those old Dutch blends were good smokes.

I've never fell in love with any of the blends out there. I'm fickled and have decided to just keep trying everything. That being said, I have created two blends of my own by working with The Country Squire. Those are my go to blends.

I think the first blend I fell head over heels for was Kingfisher. It was a wonderfully sweet crumble cake. As soon as I unwrapped the first cake from a paper wrapper stained with natural oils from the tobacco, I was hooked. It was a sad day for me when they stopped making it.

The first non-drugstore tobacco I ever tried was Dunhill Flake, so I have a soft spot for that one.

The first blend that I liked was Captain Spice from the Tinderbox (a black vanilla Cavendish)  But the first blend I fell in love with was Virginia Woods from McClelland.  I have become a lover of red Virginia and straight Virginia blends in general since discovering this blend.  If you have never tried it, please give it a shot.

MacBaren Navy Flake was a revelation for me. From the first sniff of the tin note, I knew I had a winner.

Exhausted Rooster and Shortcut to Mushrooms came soon after that. Loved the tangy VaPer from ER, and the aroma of StM.

The first blend that really changed view of pipe smoking was Dunhill 965. Up until then I had smoked inexpensive aromatics which all tasted the same to me. That first time I had 965 I realized how different tobacco blends could be. I haven't smoked 965 in over 2 years since my taste over time have changed to Virginia and Virginia Perique blends but is still the tobacco that got me passionate about pipe smoking.

I've fallen in love with the Match version of Barking Dog that @thewanderingdude sent me. I'm gonna order some up here in the new future!

I believe mine was Frog Morton on the Bayou. Still a really good blend when in the mood for Latakia.  However, Orlik Golden Sliced got me really moving forward and onto other vaper's (Escudo, Bayou Morning Flake) and then vaperbur's (Burley Flake #3, Old Joe Krantz, HH Adcadian Perique).  There are so many wonderful blends out there! I just smoke whatever I am in the mood for and depending on what time of the day it is as far as nicotine strength goes.

I had two. My first "Ah HA!" Moment with an English was GL Pease Maltese Falcon. 

For VA it would be a Va/Per, GL Pease Six Pence.

@drac2485 Its an American/English blend. Cube cut Burley, Latakia and virginia with a light rum top note.

C & D Star of the East. Haven't smoked it in some time, but I do have 8 oz of it in my cellar. Need to break it out again this fall and winter.

One night at pipe club I brought my Frog Morton Sampler. I'm not a huge fan of the others, but when I smoked the FM On the Bayou I was hooked. Perfect blend and just enough difference to make me remember and savor the experience. It's now in my rotation and I save one pipe for smoking this jem.

Barking Dog was one of the old House of Windsor blends; I was able to try a lot of them in the early 2000s, before they disappeared again. They also made Revelation, Country Doctor, Model, Union Leader,and others I don't remember. I like Country Doctor the best of the American English blends.
