Smalltime: The story of my family and the mob. Author is Russell Shorto. Excellent book. It all happened in my hometown. I wish I could talk to my grandfather because he lived right through it.
Found another interesting British detective series - DC Harry Grimm Crime Thrillers by David J. Gatward. The first book in the series is Grimm Up North and while some people may jump to the conclusion that the book deals with supernatural monsters (think Grimm's Fairy Tales), the book just deals with murders in small English villages.
I've also just finished a seven book fictional WWII in the Pacific series by John J. Gobbell. It basically follows the career of Lt. Todd Ingram, the captain of a mine sweeper at Corregidor from his escape from the Philippines through his retirement as a Vice Admiral during the Vietnam War.
@mfresa I read that book many years ago and while I don't remember much of the specifics I do remember it being somewhat of a treatise on ills of collectivism.
I recall I agreed with most of his views, I'll stop here, no spoilers.
Age and health problems have finally caught up with me and I've been spending a lot of time either at my Doctor, some Specialist, or in the hospital taking some kind of test. And that usually means you are spending considerable amount of time in a waiting room waiting for your number to be called. So because of that I've been catching up on some HP Lovecraft. I have several books containing his short stories and it makes for some interesting reading. And when I don't have a Lovecraft book in my hand you can bet it will be one of the Volumes of Clive Barker's "Books Of Blood".
@pipeman83 Heart blockage, diabetes, and an as yet un-diagnosed autoimmune disease that's playing havoc with every joint in my body. Been to two different Rheumatologists and all they managed to do was rule out Lupus. My music career is completely dead because I can't play the keyboards for more than a minute or two. So I've re channeled my talent to master the art of the TV remote control.
@ghostsofpompeii; I hear you Brother. Most of my issues I inherited, some or the price I pay for things I did when I was young and thought I was invincible.

Books aside, I hope your health problems are nothing serious.
