Vaunted Virginias

I am getting more into straight Virginias. I’d be interested in hearing folks top 3 fave VA’s, especially flakes. I really like Green Dragon from the Country Squire. I am particularly curious about Orlik Golden Sliced. Thanks!

Another good one is Ellizabethan, coming back soon.
Many Virginias have tried and many Virginias have failed to walk the tightrope Ephemeris does. Other blends attempt to hide the quality of their Virginia tobaccos by adding other tobaccos and casings, all chasing the perfect and refreshing flavor that Ephemeris has. Due to how little tongue-bite Ephemeris has and how smooth it manages to be with just Virginia tobaccos, we have been asked time and time again as to what else is included in the blend only for those asking to be astonished that we let the tobacco speak for itself here.
Despite it’s smoothness, there is no Cavendish in this blend, no casing, and no adulteration of any kind whatsoever.
We use several Pure-Virginia tobaccos that when mixed together in the perfect quantities give you the smoothness, the sharpness, and the sweetness that everyone has been chasing. Whether this is your very first pipe tobacco or you are a very experienced Virginia smoker, Ephemeris does the impossible and maintains a balancing act that even the largest and best known companies have failed in.

I have stopped at The Briary several times when traveling through the Birmingham, Al. area. It is what I think of as one of the best B&M pipe shops.
The shop is actually a house which was converted into a pipe and cigar shop about 50 years ago. When you walk through the front door, you are in a room loaded with pipe tobacco and three glass display cases filled with pipes. Another room also contains display cases of pipes and pipe accessories. There is a third room used as a lounge with leather couches and chairs, a separate room converted into a walk-in humidor and a room used as an office. It also has a covered porch where people can sit and smoke when the weather is nice.
Thank you. I had only very occasionally heard of the Briary when I received an email ad. The blend sounded intriguing. You paint a picture of a place I’d like to visit.
Unfortunately The Briary may not be open after a couple of more years. From what I understand, the owner is starting to show signs of poor health and it has affected the shop. I was there last summer and spent about two hours there having a pipe and talking to the owner and a couple of other pipe smokers. Skip, the owner, mentioned how he had been open for 48 years and was hoping to make it to 50 years.
That’s OK. I may not be open after a couple of more years.
Too bad there isn’t someone to step into tobacco shop business. If it were on this side of the country, I’d be interested.
I agree. That's what happened to John Dengler Tobacconist B&M. From Mr. Dengler, it went to his daughter and son-in-law. Now 2 ladies are servicing the shop, but I'm afraid I didn't find out the connection. The important thing is, it's still OPEN...
You would be an excellent one to carry it forward.
