Peretti "Paint Cans" for long term storage

I have grown fond of Peretti Boston Slices, and have ordered 8 ounces that I intend to store for aging. Does anyone have any experience with how these tins hold a seal over the long term?

Open up the paint can and jar the tobacco. I've ordered a couple of 8oz tins from Peretti over the years, and the tobacco is only bagged and twist-tied inside of the can. They should be okay for short term storage, but I wouldn't trust to age for any length of time.

Other folks I have asked about this think the seal itself should hold. If the seal holds, it does not matter if there is only a plastic bag inside.

From my experience, the paint can lids will pop off with aging/fermenting tobacco. This has happened with my comoys, skandinavik and peretti paint can style tins. Both the comoys and scandnavik style tins have a secondary mylar seal that will keep the tins airtight while aging. Here is an example of one my tins with 3 years of age. If it weren't for the mylar seal the tobacco would have been ruined. Peretti tins do not have the secondary seal and would have just popped their lids.
