Anyone have any experience with Raffaello pipes? I picked one up at a garage sale this weekend and can't seem to find all that much about them, other than it was an Italian company in the 60s?
@Zouave Can't wait to see a picture of that one when it's cleaned and buffed up. Looks like its in pretty nice shape. Should clean up well. I personally haven't come in contact with any as of yet but I'm always nosing around antique shops so you never know.
Can you get a clearer picture of the stamping on the side of the stem?
I've done some digging and haven't found much on two of the websites I use for research: pipedIa.org and pipephil.eu. Pipephil does have a listing, with a few photos but not much information:
Pipedia has it listed under the Italian brands and makers with the note: Raphael - Pipa Handicraft (AP); ca. 1960's.. That would lead me to believe the carver was someone named Raphael who was schooled at Pipa Handicraft.
Are there other markings on the pipe? The reason I ask is that there was a Comoy Raffaello pipe made by Lorenzo.
@PappyJoe I'll post pictures, but in case it doesn't come through well, it looks like it says raffaello firma Sabbia oro S 603 And thank you for looking into and all the info. Everyone on this site is incredibly helpful.
@RockyMountainBriar when I get to work today I'll try to look it over with some magnification. My eyes aren't what they used to be. The fun of growing older.
@RockyMountainBriar@PappyJoe Ok. After cleaning it up a bit, it does look like it says sabbia oro However the number was going in the other direction. It says 209 S I'll post new pictures
@RockyMountainBriar. Thanks that makes sense then. It cleaned up pretty nice with just a bit of polish and oil. I'm going to have to hit up some more garage sales this summer. I'm sure the wife won't be happy now that I have discovered yet another source for new pipes.

raffaello
firma
Sabbia oro
S 603

I believe the pipe says
Raffaello=The pipe maker/company
Firma=Signature
Sabbiato=Sandblasted
and I see the shape number as 803
The info I saw said it was probably a 1960’s vintage pipe made by an individual (Raffaello).
I know what you mean, I expanded the pic on my iPad and extrapolated the Italian translations

So Sabbia Oro would be sand gold....or maybe read as gold sand in Italian? Nice pipe either way🙂
