SCORED! Antique shop Dunhill

Walking around an antique shop in Kingsport, TN that had a good number of pipes in locked cases. A couple of Savinelli's, a couple of Peterson's, an older Nording and an assortment of pipes with names I didn't recognize. And, of course, a number of Medico's, Grabows and Kaywoodies. Prices ranged from $14.99 to $119 (for the Nording and a Comoy). I bought the Dunhill Red Bark for $54. Looking at the stamping, I date it as a 1976 and the shape 415.

I missed another good pipe in the same shop. I told a member of the New Orleans Pipe Club who lives in Gray, TN about the pipes and the name of the antique store. He went there today and found a Sasieni 4 Dot for $45 and a GBD.

For a city that doesn't seem to have another pipe smoker other than myself I have noticed that antique shop owners who do have the occasional pipe in a display case are well aware of the value of certain pipes. When I find a pipe with a name brand like Dunhill, Savinelli, Stanwell, or Nording the price reflects it. I've bought a lot of estate pipes from antique stores for a decent price - but when something like a Dunhill comes up it's out of my price range for buying an estate pipe.

I've cleaned it, de-ghosted it (it wasn't too bad to begin with), deoxidized, cleaned and polished the stem. Now I'm about to load it with Dunhill Apertif and have my first smoke in it.
