"Old World" Santa Pipe Tamper

So my son one night came and borrowed all of my carving tools including knives, chisels, my Foredom Moto Tool. Dremel, etc. wanting to start carving.
A couple of weeks ago he came over to give me an early Christmas present. I was floored at the workmanship. Santas' base was milled to fit into a .45 cal. brass shell. Over the last several weeks I have been looking at the tamper and finally decided on a color scheme. And here it is. I am so proud of his initial work and the fact that he made it for me. Here it sits in my small collection of tampers.

Nice👍🏻
I carved a quick “Old Man” tamper out of a branch of my Quaking Aspen last summer while partaking of my pipe🙂. Not nearly as detailed or nice as your sons craftsmanship, but it works. There is a small scraper/scoop carved into the back of his head for removing dottle.
I will add that it started out as a whistle, that attempt failed so I improvised. That is the reason he does not have a beard😬
Thank you sir.
That is an Al Pascia Curvy Reverse Calabash.
I have a couple of pipes pictured in the thread "Has anyone created their own pipe." that I made on my lathe. They are both stubby too.
They are on the first page of that thread, I think, in November 2016, if you care to take a look.
Thank you as well, I have not been back on this thread in a while
