Hey y'all, just wanted to see who's out there in the Lone Star State.  Where are you from?  What're you smoking today?  What pipe? and with all this land Texas has to offer, someone has to have some awesome lunting pictures. Please share your stories, anecdotes, and pictures about pipe smoking in Texas!  Not from Texas but have a great picture or story about pipes in Texas? Never been to Texas but want to go? No problem, share your pics, stories, and places you want to go in Texas anyway!

Smoking my pipe in Lubbock, not many pipe smokers around here from what I can tell.  I just recently heard about lunting and I don't think there's any place to do it around Lubbock that's interesting. I've been an on again off again pipe smoker for years but I've found my patience and have fallen in love with the briar.

Haha this is awesome - I used to live in the North Dallas area, Carrollton to be exact, when I was working in the video game industry. Loved Texas. Cheers!

I'm originally from the Golden Triangle area of SE Texas - Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange. Born in Port Arthur, graduated from South Park High School in Beaumont in 1971. All my sisters still live in Vidor. 

My step-grandfather was a pipe smoker and smoked George Washington until they stopped making and selling it. Not sure what he smoked after that because I was away in the service.

I miss my frequent businees trips to Dallas.I loved the energy in that town.  In addition to being a pipe and cigar smoker, I enjoy craft beer and miss my visits to the craft beer establishments in the area.  San Antonio has a special place in my heart too.  I watched my alma mater (UConn) win their second national championship in Men's basketball at the Alamodome in 2004.  I didn't get into cigars and pipes until my first visit to Houston about six years ago.  Houston has some spectacular cigar shops.

@motie2 @riobrusa  I think San Antonio is one of the least tobacco friendly cities there is.  On top of the public spaces ordinance, they just passed "Tobacco over 21".  While we're all over 21 here, it seems that San Antonio is going to keep restricting tobacco use till they're the first no tobacco city.  I should get to taking care of my bucket before they go off the deep end.

I live in the small town of Orange Grove, Tx.  Its about an hour from downtown Corpus Christi.  Not much but backcountry brush around for scenery while lunting.

The best man at our wedding, and my room mate for one year of seminary, was from Harlingen TX, right across the border from Matamoros , I believe...... what a character. I had never known a Texan, before or since. Left an indelible impression on me. To this day I still say "adios." for goodbye.

Had a shipmate on the Chase whose family had its ranch in one of those tiny little Texas towns in the middle of nowhere. He used to talk about his grandpaw who would spend his days on the porch "drinking his coffee, chawing tobacco, and smoking cigarettes."

This was the same kid who would also talk about his "favorite stump-broke calf"

@Darmon Back country bush sounds great compared to around here; half the year farmers are growing cotton, the other half the fields are nothing but miles of brown flat dust bowl acreage.  Speaking of which, anyone else in the Texas panhandle?

Only stopped to eat there on the way through, but always thought Harlingen was kinda nice.  If you like blowing dust that blots out the sun and months of flat, brown, blank fields as far as the eye can see... more power to ya. At least Big Bend has that John Wayne movie kind of countryside. haha but...

Maybe I should be more expressly clear in my wording... because you are correct, Matamoros is lovely. I wasn't basing my preference for, specifically scenery, to be confused with a preference for not being shot.  I don't consider people to be a part of the scenery.  Scenery was the only criteria, perhaps you are unaware the picture I showed earlier in the discussion is of the Big Bend area called McKittrick Canyon.  Again, if you prefer scenery that looks more like dust bowl conditions, more power to ya.  There are beautiful places more so than in Texas that are also questionable shall we say, but my like of scenery isn't deterred by the people there, but my willingness to travel there is.

I live in Brownsville, Texas, a city so is a few yards from Matamoros and 20 miles from South Padre Ialand.  Brownsville and South Padre are both still tobacco friendly and I often see pipe smokers it in the wild.

Really?  Sounds like a trip to South Padre is in order!  Know of any good pipe shops?

Whooaaa.... Just made a cardinal mistake.  I googled for "pipe shops" in South Padre... google and I weren't thinking of the same kind of pipes   haha

@madman - Haven't been to Padre Island since the summer of 1980. Man! It had a tendency to be wild down there.

While the Big Bend has the most awesome scenery,,,, I still get one H of a thrill when I drive into Big D.  That skyline puts anything New Yawk has to shame,,, and then the Stockyards of Ft. Worth, oh wow,,,,,and then the Hill  Country and Wemberley,,, oh, goodness.

Howdy, @DerekJ from your Northern cousins in Oklahoma. Texas has some great pipe shops. One of my favorites is Pipe World in Austin. Those guys know pipes and tobaccos!
