The 21 Gun Salute

This has nothing to do with pipes, but in watching a portion of the funeral of President Bush today, I wondered about the origin of the 21 gun salute. Thought some of you might like to know, if you didn't already.

    Thank you@ Bloodhound61, that was really interesting question,just something you see frequently over the years and don't give much thought to. I read the article and know a lot more than I did before.Being a veteran And have attended military funerals, it's good to know information that I probably should have known.
