With
the demise of Dunhill tobaccos it appears that the blends are staying
but are being repackaged and renamed c/o Robert McConnell (Kohlhase and
Kopp).
So long as the smokers are aware of the changes it probably doesn't really matter that the name or packaging changes so long as the blend remains the same. I'm sure if the Frog Morton series could be cloned loyalist to the blend wouldn't care if some new company changed the name to Salamander Hollow if the quality remained the same.
These are just match blends. I don’t know what era they’re trying to match but mcConnell does have a history supplementing Dunhill’s in house production decades ago. I’ve been told by two good sources that when the warehouses clear out Orlik will continue the current Dunhill mixtures under new names.
I doubt STG could afford to buy the Dunhill brand and I would wonder why BAT would want to sell the world’s leading luxury brand? I don’t know how much Altria paid for Nate Sherman last year but you have to figure Dunhill is worth many times more. STG is a player in cigars and pipe tobacco but they are a rounding error compared to BAT especially since the Swedish Match exited the partnership. I’d guess STG would be a takeover target if someone wanted to get into the premium cigar market.
