The closest thing I can come to a caption would be a reference to Pelican tobacco or some kind of reference to a "Nose Warmer" pipe...but the thing that really strikes a chord with me is what a really impressive bird that ole'Dude is. I mean really! From head to toe, that is just a really impressive bird!

Unless I am mistaken (always a distinct possibility....) that is the Louisiana State Bird.

Whenever my wife and I travel from Gary to the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival in October we'll usually encounter the bloated or smashed remains of anywhere from 60 to 100 raccoons in various degree of decay. It's become a game with us. I believe the Governor of Indiana should officially declare the racoon Indiana's State Roadkill.

@ghostsofpompeii ~ You'd think TN's state roadkill might be opossum or skunk but in the last few years it's been armadillo. Where in the heck are they coming from? There like a opossum on a half shell.

A friend in Moscow, TN has quite a few in his yard.  A quick FYI piece of trivia, in case you don't know, damn armadillos can carry AND transmit leprosy...eeww.  He usually dispatches them with extreme prejudice, he does not want their Dachshunds "playing" with them.

@OlePops, they hang around in hopes to get fish from friendly fisherman at the pier. They are nice birds.

They are nice birds to watch indeed, but they suck when your fishing and they steal your bait or worse when you have to reel them in because they're hooked and you have to unhook them rather than cut the line.

If you don't want to kill them that is. And believe me when I tell you its a bitch to do, even with two sets of hands
