Picking out my nightly smoke, and wanted something sweet. Packed some Cult Blood Red Moon, and wondered what is everyone’s recommendations on another cherry blend?
I'm a fan of the tinned Captain Black Red Sky. To me it's a nice cherry taste without tasting like cough medicine. It's my favorite cherry blend, even above CBRM.
Just received two old favorites from the early years when I just started smoking at around 13 years old. The blend is Middleton Cherry Blend. Though it was discontinued by I located a mail order supplier who still sold it, And at less than $3.00 a box I could go wrong. At least that's what I thought. It still burns to high heaven just as I remember - but with 50/50 mixture of Surliff Vanilla Custard it tones it down real nice. Not a bad blend after all.
@Kmhartle Between the two Cherry tins you gifted me, Red Sky is very mellow and light. Cult BRM a super strong cherry to me. Red Sky ended up winning my taste buds.
I usually do a 50/50 mix with a lot of my aros after the first couple of smokes. Some I add in more or add in less to my desired flavor of what I try to get out of it.
You will have to tell me how it works for you @ocpunk714. I tend to use Five Brothers since it’s a little drier and I like the shag cut. Also I got around to trying your English blend you sent me. I really enjoyed it.
I didn’t have tongue bite with call blood red moon. I do usually let mine dry out a little bit more to my personal taste. Anytime I get any aromatic I smoke it on its own before tinkering with it
2 or 3 guys at the St. Louis pipe show were going on about Lane's Dark Red. Supposed to be cherry with a bit of carmel I think. Haven't tried it myself, but I have it on my "to get" list... Might be worth checking in to.(-10 points @motie2)...
@motie2, thank you, I’ll be ordering from Tobaccopipes soon and take a closer look at these blends. Have tried Cult Red Moon awhile back, it was ok. I have a funny feeling which ever blend I choose it will inevitably mixed with something. Thanks for the information.
From what I've been reading, Cobblestone may just be a rebranding of Sutliff bulk blends. If so, the Cobblestone Cherry Delight would be very similar to one of the two Sutliff cherry bulk blends that are also on the list from tobaccopipes.com.
I cracked open a tin of Cobblestone Indulge Cherry Delight over the weekend. I find it to be a good smoke and I don't get the cough drop/medicinal aftertaste that many pipe smokers complain about with cherry blends.
@KA9FFJ I agree with @buflosab on the Dark Red. I’ll even go one more step and say it is my favorite cherry blend do far, although I have only tried a handful. That CB Cherry I had last night was ok, but it definitely started out with a “chemically” flavor and ended “bland-ish”. On a good note, I didn’t get any tongue bite and it burned well straight out of the pouch with very little moisture. That was in a “break-in” bowl too.
@RockyMountainBriar Tnx buddy. I've never really been a fan of cherry blends, but for the sake of variety, I'd like to have a good cherry blend on hand when the mood strikes...
@KA9FFJ Same here, but I have been pleasantly surprised with a few. Some in a bad way...like Cult Blood Red Moon. To me, it is like a heavily scented candle or maybe a urinal cake, very “chemically” all the way through the bowl, top to bottom. Not that I have smoked either a candle or urinal cake.....or plan to......ever.

Appreciate it.

If I remember correctly, the CB Black Cherry is pretty good too. It has been awhile since I have smoked it though.

Is it best to let the urinal cake dry out first?
I don’t know, try it out and let me know how it goes...maybe you could do a review😬 😂😂😂😂
@RockyMountainBriar

Now that's funny, I don't care who you are! I feel like I'm back in the Firehouse.
