I had considered getting a brand new copy which was close to $30, but @motie2 helped me get one that only ended up costing $10. It’s a library copy and in fairly good condition. Except the cover.
"This copy is from a library in London. It has the name J.P. Cole written
in it. I wonder who that is and what was their collection if they had
one."
I wonder if JP Cole is JW Cole, the author of The St Claude Story's brother?? His name is listed in Ben's reading list. I have a fairly large tobacciana library but unfortunately most of it is boxes stored in the davecave so I might have it. I have a pipe show in the MSP area next weekend that always has lots of books and other paper and CPCC next month so I'll keep an eye out for JP Cole's book. https://pipedia.org/docs/Recomended_Reading.pdf
I would get a book jacket cover and see if you can get the tape off and unfold the chips and tears the best you can and carefully put the jacket in the cover and seal it up.
Ben Rapaport is a self taught student of pipes and tobacciana. He is as curmudgeonly as you can get and can be a real pain in the ass and has been threatening retirement as long as I've been active in the hobby over thirty years. Anyone can PM me with your email and I will forward you his Fall 2017 book catalog as soon as I can.
Jacques P. Cole was J. W. Cole's son. He grew up in the pipe making industry and worked for several different companies during his career. He was also a prolific author and translator. His private papers are in The National Pipe Archive in England. http://www.pipearchive.co.uk/briar/cole.html
