Coupons

Gentlemen

This past year on two occasions I received coupons from the Scandinavian folks for significant savings on some of the "OTC" blends of pipe tobacco. I have everyone of those blends safely in my cellar, but I figured I would simply top off my stash at those prices. And, honestly I do smoke some of these on occasion.

The issue is that I have not found a single tobacco shop or other stores that sell tobacco that will honor them. I get excuses from "we don't buy from them" to "it takes too long for us to get reimbursed".

Has anyone else had this issue, has anyone been successful using these coupons?

  • Oof, that's rough. I just signed up a few months ago for the coupons, haven't received any, but now I'm wondering who I can go to take advantage...
  • I've used the coupons at Walgreens, but often the selection locally is limited to just Captain Black. I've never had a problem using the coupons there.
  • There's one place in Lewiston I've found will not accept these coupons, but the Hannaford grocery stores do. However, I've only seen Captain Black, Carter Hall, Grainger, and occasionally one other in their tobacco lockup in the front of the stores.
  • I sent off the SWR coupons I got to a friend who smokes it, said he used them and thanked me.

I have received the coupons in the past, but there is no where near me that carries pipe tobacco.  Expect for one pipe/cigar store.  They acted like they did not want to take the coupon.  Even with the coupon it was still cheaper on-line.  So, I just tossed them.
  • There is nowhere around where I am in Philly that will except them so I just save them.  Yep, that's right, I just save them.  Why? What's the point?  Because someday, they may end up being a collectable much like finding an old pipe tobacco ad or catalogue advertising pipes and/or tobacco or even a tobacco coupon from another time.  I just insert them into a pipe related book and that's it.

  • I also used my coupons at Walgreens for the only blend of Captain Black they carried ... the original blend. Places that once carried OTC blends have little by little pared their in store stock to near zero. All I seem to find now are the bulk bagged blends like "Smokers Pride" or "Super Value". Even old codger blends like Half & Half, Prince Albert, Carter Hall, and Borkum Riff are no longer available in may of the Convenience Stores in my area. Walgreens was the last place I found Captain Black, so that's where I ended up using my coupon.
  • I usually send them to friends that smoke SWR and Capt. Black, etc.. My favorite Codger Blend is Carter Hall.
