  • Great time for those who want to try @ghostsofpompeii's Mrs. Hudson's 221B Bakery Blend!
  • So true, ordered 2 ounces of Rum and Maple,2-Creme Brûlée,2- Coco Creme,2-Sunset Rum.
  • @buflosab -- If it;s not too much trouble, I'd appreciate a review of Sutliff Rum and Maple,
I smoked the original Rum & Maple back in the 1960's and remember it as being OK.
I tried Sutliff's Maple Street and found it wanting.
OTOH, I worship Barbados Plantation, Sutliff's premium rum blend.

  • Definitely motie, I had the Rum& Maple awhile back,my first impression is it is pretty decent. But no comparison to Barbados Plantation. I'm inclined to mix blends and BD and Rum&Maple sound like a good combination,if for no other reason then to stretch out a BD stash.
  • Also I have not tried Maple Street, so I can't really compare that blend with Rum& Maple.Som of the other comparisons I've seen on TPL regarding Sutliff blends in one case disagree with. That being Sutliff Sunset Rum and Barbados Plantation. Smoked both and found BP far superior, wasn't feeling the comparison. On the other hand I found Sutliff Creme Brûlée and Tinned Molto Dolce very close. Just my opinion.
  • @buflosab -- That's very close to where we all are, we being Sutliff aficionados. CB and MD are very close.  I originally found SR to be close to my beloved Barbados Plantation, but after having both for a month, I'll pay the extra tariff for BP.

My first two Sutliffs were MD and MS. Liked MD a lot but found it's taste to be just sweet, and that wasn't what I was seeking. (Remember, I didn't know what I was seeking). Didn't like Maple Street at all, I think because I could taste the tobacco. Yes, folks, it's true: With MD you cannot taste the tobacco....at all. After two abortive tries with non-Sutliff blends I had a "d'oh!" moment: I drink a rather lot of rum, so...... and I opened the tin  of BP and it's been my all day every day pipeful, when ever I get to smoke during cold weather -- not often -- but during the more pleasant months it's been my constant companion. I don't know what to mak eof the whole thing. In mny first pipe life mid 60's to mid 80's I primarily smoked Balkan Sobranie, a few Dunhill blends, and Escudo. When my second pipe life began in the summer of 2016 (quite a hiatus, yes?) I couldn't tolerate the couple of English blends I tried and I never got to Escudo. I tried an aromatic (in the mid 1960's I began with Cherry Blend, Rum and Maple, Paladin.... have not most of us began with aromatics?) and the one I tried was MD.... and the rest is babbling.....
  • Interesting motie, still doing the elimination process with Sutliff blends, meaning I've trying to see which ones I like the best.Found a couple of the new blends to be just ok.I feel like I'm leaning towards the Rum or Maple blends as off the last 6 months. And of course thanks to your turning me on as well as many other members to BP. The quest is on going to find that perfect blend. Maybe their is know such thing, but it's fun trying. Take care.

Took advantage of the 20% off Sutliff bullks and ordered 6 oz Creme Bulee. Also ordered Battle of the Blends Moon Trance tin with Molte Dolce tin. Now I wait patiently... :)
  • @KA9FFJ -- Popular sentiment has Creme Brulee being the bulk form of Molto Dolce. I find the MD to be sweeter. Let us know how you find them....
  • @KA9FFJ -- Thanks in advance......
