@motie2 although aromatics often cut the nicotine rush (for me anyways) i can’t believe he didn’t feel anything from a burley blend! I have to steer clear of burley, unless it’s very lightly added to a blend (such as bag end). If i smoke to much of it I’m down for the count
@PhilosoPiper - I had no idea that Just For Him had discontinued Shortcut to Mushrooms. I wonder why?!? Good thing I stocked up with a ridiculous amount a few years ago. Definitely one of my favorite go to blends. I guess it will be extra special when I finally get to that last bowl some day. Maybe they will bring it back...
@Jaynaff, It is my understanding that it had something to do with the deeming regs. However, this is just what I have heard. Hopefully it can keep going, but it is off of their website now.
@PhilosoPiper I contacted Just For Him - they said they plan to bring back the Middle Earth Tobacco line soon. They were having trouble acquiring some of the base tobaccos required for blending, and were looking into alternatives. It will be interesting to see if I can tell a difference when they put Shortcut to Mushrooms back up.

Second Breakfast by TCS is one of my all time favorites. It’s the first Squire blend I purchased when I started cellaring Tobacco. The smell of it reminds me of a childhood breakfast cereal I have had before.
@Go4Broke I know your query about LOTR pipeweed was awhile back, but I tried "Auenland - The Shire" and it is awesome. I was looking for something peachy, this one is tasty👍🏻
I don't think anyone mentioned it but each year the NASPC puts out a tobacco with their pipe show and they lean towards LOTR's usually they have the blend created by GL Pease and I believe it is made by C&D? It is a limited release of tins though so it can be hard to come by. I will see if I can find some links or info about the blends.
I just don't understand the assumption that LOTR blends have to be aromatic. Unless my memory is failing me, I don't recall anything in the books about anyone smoking anything smelling like berries or fruit or any other aromatic. My impression is that they would have been smoking something more along the lines of a straight Virginia. Hobbits were for the most part simple beings with only a very few being adventurous. You also have to remember that Tolkien was known for smoking Capstan Original Navy Flake which was a straight Virginia. I think in his mind, they inhabitants of Middle Earth would have been smoking what he was most familiar with.
Of course, that is just my opinion and tobacconist are within their rights to name aromatic blends what they want.
@Wrmills As I said earlier, I don’t recall anywhere in the book actually describing the pipeweed’s Flavor profile. I mentioned straight Virginia because it has been documented that Tolkien mainly smoked Capstan Original Navy Flake which was a straight Virginia.
