Russell, when it comes to pipe tobacco, you would be surprised how many palates may favor a blend that you didn't care for. Sometimes, you can let a blend sit in the tin for 6 months to a year, then go back and revisit it, or try it in a different pipe, and have a completely different experience.
Once you have explored all your options, you could trade it for something you would like to try, or simply give it away.
Another option, is to use a blend you don't care for as an air freshener. I got a sample of candy corn a few years back that I didn't enjoy smoking, but it made such a good air freshener for my truck that I rehydrated it over and over, until I felt I had gotten the purchasers moneys worth.
@ghostsofpompeii that is my thinking as well as it seems to be on the mild side of Latakia from what I have read I can't imagine a full on flavor or aroma
@Russell Sometimes...SOMETIMES you can make a 50/50 blend with toasted or dark Cavendish and it will make the blend palatable, sometimes even enjoyable. Now that applies to me. All I'm saying is that it might be worth a try rather than just letting it sit...
@Russell Since you're not a fan of Latakia I'd actually cut the mixture back even more to 1/3 Black Sea and 2/3 Dark. It puts the Latakia quite a bit further back. I'm not a fan of Latakia either, but since Black Sea doesn't have that much in it adding more of the Dark should put it so far back that it won't be as off-putting.
@Russell I have traded with folks here on TPL, there's a trade thread lurking in here somewhere. It has been easy and fun to trade. Plus the ease of trading makes me willing to be adventurous and try something, knowing I can trade it off if it isn't to my taste.
@Russell Don't feel bad about acquiring a blend you don't like (unless you have a lot of it). You can always give the pouch/tin to a new piper and help them get acquainted with the hobby. I've given a few blends to different new pipers starting out, and keep some at home for when a friend wants to give pipe smoking a shot.
I am going to send it along with other blends to a service member in afgahn since I have been there and know pipe tobacco and good cigars are hard to come by while deployed thank you for all you advise I will keep a little bit of it for exsperimenting
