Photos of Then and Now Pearl Harbor. My small tribute to those who made the Ultimate Sacrifice.Last picture is the USS Arizona for those that may not know. Found out a few days ago remains of 100 sailors and Marines were identified from the USS Oaklahoma.Remember December 7, 1941.
Been to the memorial. A very moving moment. It was kind of a strange feeling knowing we were cabled to, and directly over the Arizona. A lot of names were on that plaque... Touching...
That must have been thrilling,to stand were all that history took place, maybe thrilling is not the right word, you know what I'm saying. Four members of my family have been to the memorial and say it's unbelievable. They of course also went on the USS Missouri and stood were the surrender took place. Hope to do it one day myself.
My Uncle Harry worked at Pearl Harbor as a civilian worker, he was off work when they hit. He and his family stayed out there till 1946 and came home. He told me he hated it out there. He was then employed at Oakland Army Terminal.
Thanks for posting this buflosab! I was listening to a talk radio station last night, and they were reviewing details on the attack at Pearl Harbor. One of the things that they discussed, that stood out in my mind, is that America's greatest generation was there that day, and they never felt the need to complain, criticize, or lay blame on any of their leadership. They handled the situation to the best of their ability, and simply moved forward, with an eye on handling the next task assigned.
