I have not tried it, and I doubt that it would be something I would like based on the description. Lots of smokers seem to love the stuff. And after hearing the INCREDIBLY dopey, sexist, condescending, insulting Molto Dolce commercial on Brian Levine's podcast, I'll never buy it or try it.
The best starter aromatic. Nearly perfect, tho it sometimes arrives a little too moist. Smooth, delicious, great smelling to others. No noticeable nicotine, Never bites. Also very little noticeable tobacco flavor either. Very enjoyable, and training wheels for the aromatic pipe smoker. Some stay with it; some move on. I enjoyed a tin, then went to other Sutliff blends. But MD is a great starting point and a great smoke.
Absolutely love it. Might be a bit harder to keep lit as a starter blend since it tends to be a bit moist. Some let it air out for a while but from my experience it doesn't dry out no matter how long you leave it out, so you might as well smoke it as it is. Just might take a few relights. But in the end the flavor is well worth the extra effort. I've maintained that it's the same blend as Sutliff Crème Brulee - and a lot cheaper when you buy it in bulk. If there is a difference it's very subtle. First thing you'll notice once opening a can of Molto Dolce is it seems to be half full. Guess the extra casing makes it a bit heaviler by weight than other blends which seem to be filled up to the top of the can.
@Blue CollarBastard -- I've tried eleven Sutliff aromatics, tinned and bulk. The ones I've stuck with (bought more than 4 tins or 8 oz. bulk) are Barbados Plantation (tin) and Sunset Rum (bulk). One can't go wrong with the starter blend -- Molto Dolce -- but, ultimately, I was looking for a rum blend.
@motie2 yea I'm interested in the rum ones. I like rum so i should like that. But I'm glad i ordered the molto dolce. Especially since it got good reviews from the site and y'all.
@BlueCollarBastard@Motie2 and I agree on several similar blends, but one I love that he's not as fond of is East India Trading Company "Officer's Club". It's actually my favorite blend at the moment. It has the flavor of a bona fide Rum Custard dessert - not the cheap sweet kind you might find in the refrigerated section of a Supermarket - but the exquisite flavor you'd find in an upscale Restaurant - rich and creamy and not too sweet. I highly recommend it. And if you don't like it do the same thing as Motie did ... send it to me.
Speaking of Sutliff tobaccos, one of the local B&M had a sale on tins, 50% off. I bought one of each of the aromatics. Molto Dolce was one, another that I really enjoyed was/is Moulin Rouge (the name has changed, and I do not remember if this is the original or new name). Anyway, it has a creamy strawberry, or berry of some sort, flavor and aroma. It is pretty good and not terribly "chemical". It needs to dry some, it can tend to bite.
Opinions differ on that one. I didn't find much of the advertised "rum custard" flavor. @ghostsofpompeii recommended it and it was the first thing he suggested that didn't ring my bell, as it were.
As an alternative, or perhaps an adjunct, I'd suggest Sutliff Private Stock Maple Street (tin).
@motie2@ghostsofpompeii i will try both. I have heard of the maple street tasting like waffles. Sounds good to me. But everyone's tastes are different.
@BlueCollarBastard — If you want some fuller flavored aromatics but still very low tongue bite try out Cherokee, Rivendell & Old Toby from the Country Squire. Old Toby actually has a little Perique in it. All good aromatics. https://www.thecountrysquireonline.com/
