Depends on how tight the seal is on the lid. I think the ones with a rubber gasket/seal should be good for at least a month. I've never trusted the ones with the cork seals.
Is the canister the glass type? If your rack is the type I'm thinking of, the glass jar will have a water stone in the lid. The stone is porous and will absorb water and (should) keep your tobacco hydrated. I would not consider it for long term storage, but should be fine for your daily blend.
Also consider how moist the tobacco is that you are putting in the jar. May last anywhere from a week or two to a month or two. Maybe longer. If the lid is wood, be sure it does not get warped which will affect the seal.
