I found a tin of Burley London on the shelves at Paul's last year that had the old tin design. They changed in 1998 to the current design, so it was at least 17 years old when I smoked it. I just finished a tin of Dunhill Light Flake - the old Murray version - that I set aside in 2006.I have a number of tins in my cellar that have a pretty fair number of years on them.
When I was given a bunch of samples from a fellow piper on another board, he included a bit of Kentucky Club from the 1950's that was given to him. The tobacco was still very good and an enjoyable smoke.
This thread reminds me of the woman who found 88 sealed tins of Prince Albert in her wall dating back to 1918. Good thing she let him out of her wall.
The cool thing about the Burley London is that it was just sitting there on the shelf, with the other MacB stuff. I had no idea how old it was,but I knew it had some years on it. Paul's is an experience. Paul Spaniola, the founder and owner, didn't do anything in small amounts. Lord knows what all is stashed away in that shop.
i have 2 tins of frog morton..frog across the pond and bayou..both pre 2005 unopened..and mccl ani from when it first came out unopened...i opened some frog on the town recently and made an awsome home blend ..the tin was from 2002..vert mellow and yummy
I have a few over twenty years old tins that I have not opened. I think the oldest that I have smoked was 15 + year old 100g tin of McClelland Anniversary. I still have a bit of the tobacco left in a Mason jar.....good stuff!!
One other note: As I have been cyclic between smoking pipes predominantly and then cigars, I have a few jars of C&D Habana Daydream dating from around 2008. I cracked open one of my Mason Jars last year and found an interesting change in flavor. The Virginia tobaccos really aged well adding a smooth pronounced sweetness to the blend along with an interesting melding of the other components.
The oldest blend I've smoked was a 40 year old tin of Niemeyer Irish Aromatic gifted to me by @Woodsman (Frank). Best part about it was he actually got the tobacco while in Ireland. So needless to say I've jarred the tobacco and added the tin to my collection. It was my first experience with an Irish Aromatic which are different from American Aromatics which cam be exceptionally sweet - whereas the Irish Aromatic is an exceptional smoke but has little in the way of casing. The dominant flavor quality tobacco. I had to smoke it in my vintage Custom-Bilt pipe which is older than I am. I felt like Rod Taylor sitting in The Time Machine traveling backwards in time.
One of the first tobaccos I bought was Stokkeby Luxury Flake. When I tried it 6 years ago I hated it, too much like cigarettes. I pulled it out again a month or so ago when I was vacuum sealing my jars (all except virginias and VaPers) and it had darkened and sweetened markedly. I tried it again and it was a very pleasing surprise, a much better smoke. The virginias in it had aged very well👍🏻

I have a tin of Rattray's Professional Mixture from the mid-90s (can't exactly date the tin) that I haven't brought myself to crack open yet.
