You must be of Irish blood. Most of my ancestors came from Scotland and I was told It spells different Samhuinn, rather than Samhain, same celebration though. No matter, have a nice Halloween.
For those who enjoy history, I whole heartedly recommend Hypnogoria's podcast deep dive into the history of Halloween, up through present day. There's a lot of misconceptions on Halloween and its origins, and the podcast is very thorough in debunking some long held myths. It's a long listen, but very entertaining.
Just curious how many kids you guys got. Like I said I live in Gary, Indiana - which isn't the safest city in the Country - and I didn't get a single kid. Each year we'd get less and less. The past five years you could literally count them on one hand. Now I don't even need one finger. Really sad, because I had my house build across the street from my parents home where I grew up as a kid. And me and my buddies would go out three or four hours and come home with enough candy to keep all the dentists in the county working double shifts for the next 12 months. To see the numbers dwindle down to zero is quite depressing. My poor wife goes out of the way to make the place look inviting with all the Halloween decorations. But by evenings end we realized Halloween and Trick or Treating as we know it has become extinct as the dinosaur in our location. Then the deeper we got into our conversation we got to thinking ... in this day and age parents are probably afraid to send their kids out at night to the houses of strangers ... and on the flip side home owners are probably just as afraid to open their door to strangers.
We had about 25 kids show up, which is less than half of what we’ve had in the past. The weather was really nice, so we were expecting a much bigger turnout. I’d better find a pipe tobacco that complements chocolate candy bars, because I’m going to be eating them regularly for the next couple of weeks.
We had one group of kids show up to our door, and I assume it's only due to the jack o lanterns outside our house. Normally, we never have anyone show up, so I'm glad we bought candy for it.
We had more younger and older kids this year than last. But, a cautionary note: I noticed that parents accompanied both age groups this year, even the older kids.
