I discovered Penzance long before the hype. I have smoked several tins. I still have a couple down in my cellar. It's very good, but I won't participate in this feeding frenzy.
@judandhispipe I have only had a few bowls that a friend sent me, but I agree, it's good but not the heavenly mixture that others speak of. I prefer stonehaven myself.

I have never smoked it but have wanted to because of the hype but have not been lucky enough to be able to find any. So if anyone wants to part with some... I have however learned over the years that very few tobaccos have lived up to the hypes. I have Ramsgate and Stonehaven from Esoterica and do enjoy them but they are not anything super special.
I have some cellared. It's good but I don't find myself reaching for it that often. Yes I think it's over-hyped. I like it but there are others I prefer. I want to try Stonehaven but that's is impossible to get a hold of. Not a big deal, eventually they will be available. I remember when Samual Gawith FVF was hard to get due to hype now it's readily available.
I agree with @lostmason I've started to look more at what's available and more affordable. Even though I snagged a couple bags of Esoterica tobacco I don't think I'll be buying any more any time soon
I had some 10 year old Fire Dane last night and it blew away any Penzance I have ever had. I know they are totally different, but I think that it is over hyped and many aged blends are just as good if not better.
It is a very, very good blend AND it is over-hyped.
I think of it like a really great song that they play on the radio ALL THE TIME. I mean, it is a super good song and I like it, but the over-play wears it out.
I used to smoke it before the hyper-hype, and I thought it was good... But it wasn't something that I would ever go out of my way to get beyond the B&M in town. Now that it is so hyped and stockpiled and sold and traded like it was an actual gold brick, I just don't care enough to get any.
So, if you get a chance to pick some up, you will probably enjoy it (no accounting for taste, after all), but I wouldn't stand in line for it or pay a ton or anything. Purely a sin of opportunity, imho.
