@PappyJoe The thought did occur to me concerning a new cap, but I elected to take the easy route. It does make me think though, I've never checked out if new caps are available for purchase. I'm sure they are... somewhere. I've just never checked it out. Tnx @PappyJoe. I now have some investigating to do...
I have three pipes with the caps. Two are estate pipes that I bought to mostly sit on my pipe rack and the third one is a Mr. Brog's that I was given. I have smoked all three but don't really like the round tube shaped stems on the two European made ones. I'll have to post some photos.
The Mr. Brog has a "normal" shaped stem and I do occasionally load it when I going on a road trip and may want to have a smoke. The caps are good for keeping the tobacco in the bowl and can serve as a windscreen.
After an internal cleaning, decharring the rim and stripping the stummel, I found an old P-Lip stem that I thought would compliment the poker, and turned the tenon to a tight fit:
Almost forgot. I didn't think I was going to be able to keep the stamping on this one but my determination won out. The "New" on New York was initially all but gone, but I was able to save the rest.
That Falcon bowl also came out real nice. I forgot to take a pic and I'm presently in my garage enjoying a pipe, so you'll have to take my word for it... 😏
After internally cleaning the pipe, I was hoping the leather was going to be able to be saved, but to no avail. The leather was so dry that just using saddle soap and light rubbing with a microcloth caused even more damage than was already there...
After seeing the grain, I decided to do a subdued 2-tone stain. I used brown, allowed to dry and then sanded it with 600 grit. After rinsing and drying, I used tan. After drying, I did an alcohol wipe, waxed, buffed, etc and here's the final:
Not too bad for a pipe initially covered in leather. It did have some stitching marks on the bottom of the bowl that were too deep for me to mess with. But for the price I'll be asking, it will be a good pipe for someone to add to their rotation, or a good work pipe...
Here's a "magic inch" stummel... no stem, and the tenon was stuck in the shank. Did the freezer trick and removed the tenon. Here's the stummel ready to be given " new life"...
There were also a few dents on the bottom side of the bowl and one side of the shank. I used steam and was able to lift them all out. Here's the dents:
After addressing the dents, I stripped the whole pipe to see what I had to work with. As you can tell from the earlier pics, I had to reshape the rim of the pipe due to excessive abuse:

I'm happier with it now...
I agree, it looks better with full rustication. Nice job.
It is a shame you couldn't make a new metal cap for it.

The Mr. Brog I have.
Is that Mr. Brog a 9 mm?
No difference to me. It's just curiosity and I know a lot of Mr. Brogs are...
No. The stem is also poorly made and I have to wiggle the pipe cleaner to get it through.
Here's the final:

The first thing I did was dechar the rim and the outer top of the bowl...
