Tnx @vtgrad2003 I have to admit, there are times when I have a hard time sleeping, and I've found it's better to just get out of bed and read or work or both until the arms of Morpheus take me back again. That was one of those nights... 😳😴
Sneak peek: I know most of us have, in different degrees, a nostalgic affection for the old Grabow pipes. So I thought I'd show you some upcoming projects I will be working on in the near future as time allows: Top pipe - Westbrook Top right on down - Emperor Starfire Emperor Viscount Hopefully they will be brought back to life to be enjoyed once again...
@RockyMountainBriar Turns out the 2 Emperors have never been used! There's a lot of oxidation on the stems. It doesn't look that way in the pics, but trust me, it's totally covered simply from age. The pipes as a whole look as if they've been sitting in a shop window in the sun for years (if you know what I mean) that faded and dried out look. Anyway, I'm starting on them 1st...
@KA9FFJ We have a nice homestead that makes it easy to withdraw from the turmoil that seems to be today's norm. I was never able to stay home and out of trouble for any length of time...I'm back!
@vtgrad2003 You finally figured out that you have to do your laundry and take a shower before heading home!
Reshaped the rim. Gave the pipe an initial cleaning and sanding. Result: 12 pits and fills and a stem and shank extension that needs some extra attention to blend in some crisp matching angles... Here it is after phase 1:
Well, I think we can all agree that the Starfire stummel was NOT one of Grabows best, not to mention the abuse it received through the years. But, for the cheapo price I'll be putting on it, someone will get a solid workhorse pipe that should last them for MANY years. At least it is clean and better looking than when I first got it...
A golfing buddy of mine has taken up pipe smoking, so I gave him a couple of cheap pipes I refurbed and about 8 oz of tobacco, and he was off to the races. I gave him a few pointers and answered any questions he has had along the way. Anyway, he has a tendency to pack his bowls too tightly and, as most newbies do, he tends to puff like a freight train. I've warned him of the consequences that could happen and sure enough, he gave me one of his pipes with a "sorry", and said he has learned his lesson. I took the pipe and, after taking it back to good briar, am left with this pipe...
Needless to say, I won't be repairing this pipe...😬😔
@Balisong Well, it started out as a hole about half the size of a pencil eraser. But what your seeing is the final result after taking it back to good briar. He really did a number on it... 😬

If there is such a thing as a "Patron Saint of Pipes", you have to be it.

Glad to hear from you again. It's OK to stray away now and then, just be quicker getting back...😁
My wife used to tell me that when I got home from conferences...she doesn't say that any more

That is a keeper, now that you have worked your magic. Like that is a big surprise.
Very Nice.
🙂
I’m pretty sure you have posted that link before?
Ahhh👍🏻
That site looks like a work in progress, are you associated with it?
No, but I’ve purchased a couple of items. Fast shipment and I was satisfied with the value.
