You guys were right. I ran a root kit scan this morning, and found 3 decompression zip files in my puter. I visited the Neatpipes site last Wednesday when I got a 30% off email promo. I purchased a pipe, and got a confirmation that payment was approved and pipe was on the way. Then on Wednesday of this week, I got another email, stating that the 30% off promo would be good again on Wednesday of this week. I figured I would post the link for you guys, in case anyone wanted to take advantage of the discount. I ran a root kit scan on Monday of this week, so the Malware must not have been on the site last week when I made the purchase.
Now my puter won't recognize my flash drive. That will definitely be the last purchase I make from Neatpipes, and certainly the last link I ever provide. I'm going to go ahead and edit the link from the post, and hope that no one else gets an infection.
Get a quick assessment of the strength of your Internet security. You will see how well your security infrastructure can stop threats, and safeguard your data. It's free, confidential, and safe.
Why take the test?
Despite costly on-premises security appliances (such as Cisco, Symantec/Blue Coat, Websense/Forecepoint, McAfee, Check Point, FireEye, Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks) many networks still remain vulnerable due to functionality, performance, or misconfiguration issues. With a global security cloud that processes billions of security requests every day, Zscaler instantly scans and pinpoints security gaps other security solutions often miss and can help you take corrective action today.
Security preview runs in your browser, and won't access your data, change any settings, or introduce malware. You might see alerts in your security system.
@motie2, I am still working the bugs out. This is the worst computer issue I have ever dealt with, in 20 years of staring at a computer screen. The amount of time we spend waiting for a computer to perform a task, is certainly approaching the amount of time we spend sleeping.
@motie2, that is an excellent suggestion! I need to come off the money, and go ahead and get a MAC notebook, as well as the touch screen IPOD. I am tired of Microsoft discontinuing albums, and in the process stealing away the music from my puter that I have bought and paid for. In reality, I never owned it, I just rented it for the length of time that they chose to offer it for sale. What a scam! I am about ready to give Apple a try, since I have been hearing good things about them, for the last decade.
@motie2 - I touched my first Mac at work in 1986 and switched full time to Macs at work in 1989. Couldn't afford to buy my own until 1995 but it has been worth it. Cost more than PCs but then again I have a friend who uses nothing but PCs and he went through 4 desktops in a year because it would have cost more to repair than to buy a new one. He also spends a lot of time having to fix his computer because of malware and worms. He spends more on computers in 2 years than I do in six years
In this ZDNet article from last year, IBM states that Macs are cheaper to own than PCs. They actually encourage their employees to use Macs because it saves IBM money.
@motie2 Macs can run Windows as far as I know. I've picked up Windows refurbs for $99 to $120 and they last me 4-5 years.Malware is getting out there on Macs now, just not too much as yet. The one I'm using now I bought in 2013 so I figure I'll be getting a new one soon, last I checked they're $139 but, when they go on sale I'll get one for less. One thing you should always have is a bootable backup with diagnostics.
I gave up on Windows back when Windows 2.0 was released, and we spent more of our work day re-booting the computer and waiting around than we were able to spend doing any work. While Macs may cost more out the gate, in order to get a PC to do what a Mac can, one often spends more on expansion-boards and other upgrades than the difference in price.

I reckon that means no financial transactions, period.
Which kinda defeats the purpose of the website.

@motie2, thanks for the links. When I have about 5 hours to spare, I am probably going to refresh my Windows 10 operating software.

MACS are superior to Windows machines in every way but two:
1) cost
2) almost everyone else has Windows (but who cares????)
And MAC is indeed a superior system for almost every use.
By the by, eMail advertising from "that site" lit up my defenses like a Christmas tree.
