I really enjoyed his after midnight TV shows "Playboy After Dark" and I can't remember the other one at the moment - but they were more like pajama parties with scantly clad beautiful woman, important celebrities of the era, and some amazing jazz musicians performing. His show was my introduction to jazz. As well as other things young impressionable teenage boys find of interest.
I have a friend who wrote an award-winning BA history thesis on the decline and fall of Playboy. Wrote it in 1990. Hefner actually read it and sent a letter to my pal telling him why he was wrong. I was, for a brief period of time from 1990-2017 at one degree of separation from Hef.
Ah! Those 2 or 3 degrees of separation... One of the guys I went through bootcamp with told us he was married to a former Playboy bunny. We were both stationed in Seattle afterwards and he was indeed married to a model who had been in Playboy. I also visited the Playboy club in Dallas once.
But the best was I spent 3 hours with Alex Haley in 1988. Haley was a the first Chief Journalist in the Coast Guard and after retirement was frequent contributor to Playboy magazine. I was a Chief Public Affairs Specialist (what had been a journalist at one time). It was a fascinating assignment to escort him around Governors Island and buy him a drink in the Chiefs club.
I had a buddy from Cleveland, grew up on the street together, went to the same elementary, junior high, and high school. He married a Playboy bunny. Took her over an hour each day to put on her make-up and do her hair for work. She looked fake, but hot, ya know?

BTW, it didn't work out.
