@NicoleSTGLaneLtd We know you as THE Admin for This Pipe Life but are there others out there? Is it a closely kept secret so we don't harass them as well as you?
Hey all- checking in from my vacation and see you're all behaving badly I am the sole front end admin of TPL. There are a few other users on our dev team who have admin accounts, but they only will ever post to test new features, etc.
@NicoleSTGLaneLtd I imagine this can be a thankless job - like working in the Complaint Department at a department store. For eight hours a day your job is to listen to people moan and complain. So just for a change of pace let me say ... "You're doing a fine job and have a good day".
I moderated a religion forum on early AOL. Religion really seems a contentious subject. ("Who knew?") I moderated single handedly and without whip or chair. As you might imagine, it frequently became a free fire zone. I, of course, was the evil censor that everyone attacked. Jeez Louise, but the religious can be contentious. "Have we not all one Father? Hath not one God created us," wasn't worth a pail of spit. But it was a relatively easy job:. Delete offensive/obnoxious posts, or, more often, try to talk some folks down.
Milady Nicole has a light touch, appropriate to the atmosphere and ambience of our forums. I mean, we really seem to be troll free and have proven relatively flame proof. Most of us are gentlemanly.
Where TPL could use a little help is achieving faster I.T. response times to submitted comments.
I wonder what STGLane gets out of this. We're the ones who benefit.
@motie2 I've been an Owner/Moderator of several Horror related Yahoo Groups and it can occasionally be a real pain in the ass when members go off topic. Especially when that topic is politics or religion. So I can imagine the flame wars which could have erupted at your religious site. And when you're the sole Moderator people seem to think you're job is to sit there 24/7 to monitor the site and make sure someone doesn't post something that's offensive. Because if by chance it slips through (because you maybe took a day off to go on a road trip with your wife ... only to return home to discover a full fledged nuclear war erupted during your absence ... and then get blamed for allowing it to get out of control) it makes you wonder why you've put yourself in that situation. We had a mass exodus at one of my groups when that specific situation arose and the site has never fully recovered. It only takes one person to stir the pot. And usually that person knows exactly which buttons to push to set off certain individuals. I think some people like creating drama when they feel things are getting boring. The trouble maker's idea of the site becoming stale and boring is my idea of a site "running like a well oiled machine" and doesn't require adult supervision. Some sites require a referee instead of a Moderator. So I can sympathize with Nichole. But for the most part this site has never come anywhere near that volatile. And members are polite and friendly. And we need to remember that when changes are made patience is required.

And Ghost, going off topic was seldom the problem. It was usually "My understanding of God's Will is superior to your understanding of God's Will." It always amazed me, how many folks on the forum knew the mind of God.
@Londy3 When the forum was new, we would have daily contact with the admin, now they just ignore us because they have more important things to do. Past admins, like @NicoleSTGLaneLtd or @Leonard have moved on to bigger and better things. Haven't seen @Danishface on here in a long time.
@PappyJoe Yeah I remember all three of them. Haven't seen anyone for years. There should be a help desk link but I don't see one. Poor site design too.. very old and outdated.
I joined the forum the month after it was launched and back then they did a monthly prize giveaway just for participating in the forum. The first couple of months it was a pipe. I won a Stanwell Hans Christian Anderson pipe with two stems from the forum. They also gave away things like tobacco pouches and other accessories.
I think it was four or five months after they launched that new regulations went into effect which prohibited the giveaways. That, combined with @NicoleSTGLaneLtd and then @Leonard being promoted was the beginning of STG shifting away from actively supporting the forum. Stokkebye replaced @Leonard but he seldom participates.
@Londy3 Why are you changing your email? Is the IRS on to you again? INTERPOL? Been selling counterfeit Rembrandts again? I told you you need to stop that shit...or at least launder them through a Mexican Cartel or something.
I checked my underground sources. @Londy3 is being investigated by the Illuminati because his user name came up in connection to some douché named @vtgrad2003.

I second that emotion.

Amen and Amen and Amen.

Yea, it's almost like they decided it wasn't worth the effort.
This is true. Which is why they are not here.
