Did George Washington Smoke a Pipe?
Some of the "anti-smoking" crowd claim that George Washington didn't smoke or use tobacco even though he was a tobacco grower. They based this on the premise that there are no images of him actually smoking a pipe or cigar. However, I have just found this interesting article about an archaeological dig at Mt. Vernon which found a large number of pipe fragments.

Why would a tobacco grower ask someone to send tobacco ("Coals to Newcastle," neh?)
Maybe he was tired of his own blend(s)???
Here, he's being handed a long stem pipe by an Indian/Native American
I know: It's not a photo.

Tobacco was a cash crop. It was easily sold or traded for supplies and was worth more than it's weight in gold.
