Or not.......🥴
My pipe insert of my zippo needed cleaned again so I usually soak it in alcohol for a bit the wipe/scrub it down till clean. As you zippo users know, the fluid evaporates quick and usually I have to fill mine weekly thereabouts. I don't smoke my pipe every day maybe a couple times a week, even less when it's too cold outside to relax. So, several days have gone by and I wanted to try some new tobacco I just got in. On my first strike, low and behold, the zippo was in full flame ready to go. However, a different flame but nonetheless a good flame. Turns out the alcohol used got absorbed in the cotton and it still working. Seems to be lasting longer then zippo fluid. Is this a cool discovery or has anyone else encountered this? Will I damage my zippo? I'm now curious to see how long the alcohol will last verses zippo fluid. Your thoughts?
That is interesting. Can't wait to see how long it lasts for you. I worked with a guy on a survey crew, after I had flunked out of Iowa State, he would fill his Zippo at the gas pump. I don't know how that worked.
Have you ever tried wiping the outside of the insert with Vaseline or other petroleum jelly?
I was told a long time ago that it would prevent the fluid from evaporating as fast.
@mfresa I think I used regular rubbing alcohol so probably isopropyl then. Eeek...it didn't smell bad or anything.
I flunked out of Iowa State, not once, but three times, but I never tried gasoline in my Zippo.
At Amazon, $4.99.
I figured out how to link it🙂

Anyway, just search Zippo plug on Amazon….no really.
I have those in all my Zippo lighters. They really help. By the time I figured out what they were called @RockyMountainBriar had posted the name of them. He is good!
Dude, think about the global warming your causing using all of that fossil fuel!
Yeah, I'm just one of those dangerous extremists you know.
