Dating Your Tobacco

While on a first date, you want to find out the age (or approximate) of who you are out with. When smoking a fine tobacco you want to know its age as well. How do you tell how old a tobacco is and what the codes from various manufactorers mean?

Some tins like Macbaren, C&D or mcClelland are stamped with the dates. Others have to be decoded with a decoder ring, or these links:

Thanks for the links. I have seen a few with dates such as C&D, but it's always a thrill to go into a store, find a dusty tin, and be able to know its a few years old!

Lots of manufacturers don't have any way to tell how old it is. You just have to roll with it.

I would never date my tobacco but I have talked to it while smoking.

Seriously though, I've often wondered why all manufacturers don't date stamp the tins. I just take a sharpie and write the acquisition date on the bottom of the tin when I get it.

Like most so far I don't do more than mark when I aquire the tin.

Sadly I don't,once I get my grubbies on it I have to try at least a bowl or two.If it's
a Lat bomb or a pepper bomb,I will jar and age it.If it is heavy on the virginias I
have to smoke it outside,so those get jarred for nice evenings.I do have a couple
of homemade blends that have been put away for over a year.But the majority of
my cellar is still in diapers.

@lostmason I know the feeling. I try to put my new tins in the back and do my best to forget about them, but many times I fail.
