I am having trouble with my profile picture. Every time I attempt to change my profile picture to one of myself it comes out sideways. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it?
Another option would be resizing the pic. Most forums only allow avatar pics up to a certain size. If you have a photobucket account, you already have the software necessary to resize your pic down to proper size.
I suggest you take a sideways picture of yourself. That way, when you post the picture it should come out right side up. Of course, there's also a possibility that the image could then come out upside down. This can easily be solved by taking a sideways picture of yourself while standing on your head.
@pwkarch Welcome to the bearded piper club. Facial hair is not required to be a piper ... but I'm beginning to believe it must have been written somewhere in the by-laws and I simply missed it.
@ghostsofpompeii Both beards and pipes have been associated with wise men of higher intelligence. While nothing says you have to be both bearded and a pipe smoker to be wise or intelligent, I believe it doubles the perceptions that you are by others.
@NicoleSTGLaneLtd -- and me... the Army unfortunately frowns upon beards, or I'd have been sporting one these past 30+ years. Maybe someday post military I'll wear one. By then I'm sure it will be @PappyJoe white! I'll wear that crown of splendor with pride!
@NicoleSTGLaneLtd -- Oh, I dunno, Milady. By now, we all consider you "one of the guys," and we love you for your help in getting us this shiny new site!!!!

@jfreedy My first 14 years in the Coast Guard we were allowed to have beards then in 1986 we were ordered to shave. I took 2 weeks terminal leave when I retired in 1993 and grew it back.
@PappyJoe -- the Army is currently considering allowing beards for ALL soldiers. It currently allows some to wear short beards for religious reasons. The biggest concern is making a good seal while wearing a gas mask. However, the Sergeant Major of the Army thinks it will eventually happen. Fingers crossed!!
@jfreedy That would be interesting. A lot of soldiers had beards during the Civil War and they were a tradition for the Navy and the Coast Guard until the 1970s. The logic for the Navy ban of beards I've been told was the inability to get a good seal on OBAs (oxygen breathing apparatus) during firefighting. Shortly after the ban, the Coast Guard Cutter I was on went through firefighting school in San Diego and our Captain told the school he wasn't making us shave (he had a beard also). I can't remember anyone having a problem with smoke getting in the mask.
I knew an old chief who said the whole issue with shaving was because of an officer who didn't have the genetic makeup to grow a beard complaining that facial hair would give the enemy something to grab during hand-to-hand combat. He said he had never seen a beardless Viking.
That photo was taken the day we adopted our 4 new kitty cats. I shave my beard off at least once or twice a year, then miss it, and start growing it again the very next day. That photo was maybe a month or two into growing a new beard, I can't remember. My wife asks me why I do that, and I tell her i need SOMETHING to do. I am folicly challenged on my head, so what the heck. My adult kids and my grandkids call me "Goober" after I shave my beard........no respect.

It may have been photographed in Land Scape instead of Portrait or the photo could use some cropping.
This new setup is much better, and much easier to use.
