Pipe-smokers in "The Wild"

Our friend, @motie2, often mentions that he's never seen a pipe smoker "in the wild" while living in New Jersey. So I thought it might be fun to start a discussion where we can record our pipe-smoking "sightings."

After living next door for the past 3 years I just now discovered my neighbor was a pipe smoker.

I live near Chicago and I don't think I've seen any in the last 20 years.

I’m also in Illinois, but thankfully I’ve had a bit more luck over here.

There’s a guy who smokes his pipe outside the local Dunkin, usually chatting with a group of local regulars as well. One of these days I’ll pick up a conversation with him about pipes.

I also walked past a gentleman outside Walmart last week that was puffing a bent briar. I had to do a double take, but it’s always nice to see.

Someone should take that old famous Bigfoot picture from the 70’s and give him a pipe, as it does feel like spotting us in the wild is about that tough.

While sitting in the hospital parking lot waiting for my wife to get out of her appointment a couple months ago, I saw an old duffer at the far end of the lot make the distinct gestures of pulling out pipe and pouch, stuffing it and lighting it. First sighting I've had in years.
